If you have a dental insurance policy, you should view it as a valuable asset. That is true whether you purchased your plan on your own or you have it through your employer. It may allow you to enjoy reduced fees on all the services you need to achieve or maintain a healthy smile! But how can you get the most out of your benefits? Our Alpharetta team is here to help. We are familiar with all the nuances of how dental insurance works, and we are eager to put our knowledge to work for you.

How Dental Insurance Works

Every dental insurance plan is unique, so you should take time to familiarize yourself with the details of your particular policy. In the meantime, here is an overview of the coverage that is standard with many PPO plans:

  • Preventive care: Up to 100% covered.
  • Minor restorative services: Up to 80% covered.
  • Major restorative services: Up to 50% covered.

Your plan may include a number of stipulations as well, such as a deductible, an annual maximum, and a waiting period before you can use your benefits for certain services.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Medical insurance is primarily about systemic health, and it includes coverage for catastrophic illnesses and injuries. Dental insurance, on the other hand, has a strong focus on prevention. Therefore, whereas medical insurance will not cover basic oral health services, dental insurance does. In some cases, there is a bit of crossover between the two types of coverage when it comes to major services, such as certain types of oral surgery.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Whether our practice is in your insurance plan’s network or out of it, we will be happy to help you get the greatest value possible out of your benefits.

In-Network Coverage

If a practice is in-network with your plan, it just means they have a contract that controls prices and encourages a particular standard of care. Often, out-of-pocket fees are lowest for patients at in-network practices.

At Alpharetta Modern Dentistry, we are proud to be in-network with several popular plans, including:

  • Delta Dental – PPO/Premier
  • MetLife
  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • BCBS of Georgia
  • United Healthcare
  • Guardian
  • GEHA
  • Ameritas
  • Humana
  • United Concordia
  • Connection Dental
  • Careington

Out-of-Network

Even if you do not see your insurance company listed above, we still invite you to use your PPO plan in our office. We can verify your benefits and file claims on your behalf. You can expect to enjoy many of the same perks that you would receive at an in-network practice. The most important thing is that you visit a dental team whom you truly trust to care for your precious smile!
